Se podría decir que el retrato busca representar de manera visual a una persona, ¿pero cómo representarla? ¿Cómo conectar con esa persona para que te permita ver un poco más allá de lo que quiere mostrar? Para retratar a alguien, el fotógrafo estadounidense Peter Hujar pasaba agotadoras horas con sus modelos hasta que, en un momento determinado, realmente llegaba a desbloquear la imagen exterior de esa persona y le permitía hacer visible su interior. Así, un retrato se torna en un acto de generosidad por ambas partes, de intimidad… Un compartir recíproco.
You could say that a portrait seeks to visually represent a person, but how do you represent them? How do you connect with that person so that they allow you to see a little beyond what they want to show? To portray someone, American photographer Peter Hujar spent exhausting hours with his models until, at a certain point, he truly unlocked that person's outer image and allowed their inner self to be seen. Thus, a portrait becomes an act of generosity on both sides, of intimacy... A reciprocal sharing.
