¿El retrato se podría decir que busca representar de manera visual a una persona, pero
como representar a ese alguien? ¿Como conectar con esa persona para que te permita
ver un poco más allá de lo que quiere mostrar? Para retratar a alguien, Peter Hujar
pasaba agotadoras horas con sus modelos y en algún momento realmente llegaba a
desbloquear a la imagen de esa persona y su interioridad haciéndola visible. Un retrato
entonces se vuelve en un acto de generosidad por ambas partes, de intimidad, de un
compartir reciproco.
A portrait could be said to aim at visually representing a person, but how can one represent that someone? How can you connect with that person in a way that allows you to see beyond what they want to show? To portray someone, Peter Hujar would spend exhausting hours with his models, and at some point, he would truly manage to unlock the image of that person and reveal their inner self. A portrait then becomes an act of generosity from both sides, of intimacy, of mutual sharing.
